Fundamentals of Psychodrama for Legal Professionals

February 16-19, 2012
Austin, TX

“Why should you care about psychodrama? Because it is the best way to know yourself, your client, and your case…. ”

—Paul L. Luvera – member Inner Circle of Advocates, fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers

“The easiest way to think about [psychodrama] is ‘the mind in action.’ Instead of talking about your concerns, we… say, ‘Don’t tell me. Show me!’ Showing means to act it out. Show me in action… That’s the shortest way to describe it.” —Zerka T. Moreno

PROGRAM DETAILS

If you’ve tried cases, you understand that a trial is as much an art form as it is a test of facts. Psychodrama is the search for truth using dramatic action. Psychodrama can help you better know your client and his or her case. It helps you to understand opposing counsel, their client, experts and other witnesses and what motivates them. It will also help you prepare your cases and direct them from intake to trial.

This seminar will help legal professionals who are new to psychodrama learn the basic psychodramatic techniques and will help more experienced professionals improve their psychodramatic skills. This is not a program that will train you to be a psychodramatist. It is a course designed to help you learn the techniques and use the tools of psychodrama in finding and telling the client’s story at trial. You will be given the opportunity to practice key psychodramatic skills so that you will be comfortable using them on your own when you return home and work with your clients.

During this workshop we will:

* Practice deep listening skills;

* Explore meaningful moments in your client’s life;

* Look at what motivates witnesses;

* Analyze the client’s social atom;

* Learn to be present, in the here and now;

* Discover what gets in your way in trying a case

* Learn and practice the most important psychodramatic tools so that you can direct all parts of a trial; and

* Enhance your spontaneity and creativity

Tuition is $795 (does NOT include room and board but does include three continental breakfasts and one lunch). A non-refundable deposit of $295 is required to hold your space.

Faculty scheduled to participate include: Joane Garcia-Colson (JD, CP, PAT), Fredilyn Sison (JD, CP), Mary Peckham (JD, CP, PAT), Lynne Bratcher (JD, CP) and Carl Bettinger (JD.) Joane, Fredi, Mary and Lynne are certified psychodramatists.
